Welcome to Skills for School at Allay Occupational Therapy, where we support young children and their parents in preparing for the exciting transition to school. Our School Readiness Program is designed for 4 to 6-year-olds entering Prep in 2025, providing a foundation of knowledge, skills, and confidence for this important milestone.
The group runs in September and Summer school holidays, as an intensive 6 sessions over 2 weeks.
What We Offer
Skills for School is a fun, interactive group that creates engaging and creative ways for children to practice essential school readiness skills and build an understanding of support needs at school. Our experienced paediatric Occupational Therapists facilitate activities tailored to the unique needs and interests of each child, ensuring a smooth and confident transition to school.
Key Focus Areas:
Communication Skills: Enhance your child’s ability to communicate effectively with peers and teachers.
Listening to and Following Instructions: Develop skills to listen attentively and follow classroom directions.
Transitioning Between Activities: Learn strategies to smoothly transition between different tasks and activities.
Turn-Taking and Playing with Peers: Practice sharing, turn-taking, and cooperative play to build social skills.
Fine Motor and Gross Motor Skills: Improve coordination and motor skills essential for school activities.
Self-Care Routines: Promote independence in self-care tasks such as dressing, eating, and personal hygiene.
Participant-Driven Development
Our program encourages children to actively participate in their learning experience. By engaging in group activities and discussions, children and parents can shape their own journey and build a sense of ownership and confidence as they prepare for school.
