Group Therapy

Allay provides group therapy for children, adolescents and adults. We have designed our groups to enhance wellbeing, improve life skills and develop social functioning. Utilising the power of groups to promote capacity building, build connection, and learn from others.

Groups are tailored to age groups, goals and conditions to ensure that there is focus on meaningful areas that present at varying stages of life.

2026: Term 1

Course: Handwriting Heroes

Age: Early primary school

Dates: Mondays in March (2nd, 16th, 23rd, 30th)

Times: 4 – 5PM

Duration: 4 sessions

Handwriting Heroes offers targeted Occupational Therapy to improve handwriting through strengthening activities, fine motor exercises, and letter formation techniques.

Children of any age are welcome and will build hand strength, coordination, and endurance to write confidently.

With individualised support in a therapeutic setting, kids will develop the skills needed to enhance their relationship with handwriting, share their ideas in written form, and make lasting improvements in their fine motor skills.

 

Course: Art Ink (Torquay)

Age: 9-13 years

Dates: Tuesdays in March (3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th) 

Times: 4 – 5PM

Duration: 4 Sessions

Our group program is designed to help children express themselves through art, creativity, and meaningful activities. It provides a supportive space to explore identity, build self-esteem, and develop strong friendship skills.

Through engaging sessions, children will explore their emotions and social interactions in a safe, nurturing environment. They will participate in activities that inspire creativity and self-expression, while also learning practical strategies for social and emotional regulation.

With a focus on creating a sense of belonging, the group helps participants feel supported as they navigate friendships and develop tools for positive self-esteem and self-awareness.

Our 4-day program offers an interactive and dynamic environment that celebrates each person’s unique identity and background. Experienced paediatric and adolescent Occupational Therapists lead a variety of activities and discussions tailored to the group’s diverse needs and interests.

Participants will engage in creative projects, team-building exercises, and skill-building workshops designed to enhance their social, emotional, and cognitive development. The program also includes opportunities for outdoor play and physical activities, ensuring a well-rounded experience.

By the end of the program, participants will have built new friendships, gained valuable skills, and enjoyed a memorable and enriching holiday experience.

 

Course: Strong Minds Homework Club 

Age: Early High School

Dates: Thursdays in March (5th, 12th, 19th, 26th) 

Times: 4 – 5PM

Duration: 4 Sessions

This group supports early high school students or those new to homework by building essential executive functioning skills like planning, prioritising, and time management. Students learn to break tasks into manageable steps and stay organised in a supportive, therapeutic environment.

Occupational Therapists provide tailored strategies to reduce stress and overwhelm, helping students gain confidence and independence. It also gives students a chance to connect with peers who face similar challenges.

Our Recovery Through Activity program is designed to support individuals transition through the remotivation process for positive lifestyle changes, and increase meaning and purpose in their everyday roles and routines.

It is a supportive and practical group that helps adults build skills and confidence in everyday life through fun, hands-on activities. The group encourages positive routines, social connection, and personal growth to support recovery and a more meaningful life.

Topics covered include: Recovery, Leisure, Creativity and Technology, Physical/Outdoor activity, Self-care, Vocation, Caring & Faith, Domestic, and Social & Community.

Our Art Ink group program for adults provides a creative and reflective space to explore personal identity, emotional wellbeing, and meaningful self-expression. Through guided art-based activities, participants are encouraged to engage with their thoughts and feelings in a non‑judgmental environment that promotes personal insight and emotional growth.

Across the sessions, adults will use creativity as a tool to deepen self-awareness, process experiences, and develop practical strategies for emotional regulation and resilience. The group supports participants in navigating stress, relationships, life transitions, and personal challenges through expressive arts and gentle therapeutic discussion.

With a strong focus on connection and community, the group fosters a sense of belonging where individuals feel understood and supported. Our program harnesses the power of gaming to develop essential life skills. We focus on enhancing communication, fostering team coordination, boosting self-awareness, and honing emotion regulation abilities. But we don’t stop there. We also help you improve planning skills and cultivate the ability to work effectively with others.

In our dynamic group setting, you’ll meet like-minded gaming enthusiasts ready to embark on this exciting journey. You’ll build positive social connections, master cooperative gameplay, and create strategies in an inclusive, friendly, and collaborative environment.
