Group Therapy

Allay provides group therapy for children, adolescents and adults. We have designed our groups to enhance wellbeing, improve life skills and develop social functioning. Utilising the power of groups to promote capacity building, build connection, and learn from others.

Groups are tailored to age groups, goals and conditions to ensure that there is focus on meaningful areas that present at varying stages of life.

2025: Term 1 Holidays

Course: Constructing Connections

Age: 8 – 12 year olds

Dates: Wednesday 9th of April 2025

               Wednesday 16th of April 2025 

A 2-day school holiday program for 8 to 12-year-olds. It offers an interactive and dynamic environment that celebrates each person’s unique identity and background. Experienced paediatric and adolescent Occupational Therapists lead activities and discussions tailored to the group’s diverse needs and interests.

Course: Art Ink

Age: 9 – 13 year olds

Dates: Week 1: Tuesday 8th and Thursday 10th of April 2025

               Week 2: Tuesday 15th and Thursday 17th of April 2025

Our group program is designed to help children express themselves through art, creativity, and meaningful activities. It provides a supportive space to explore identity, build self-esteem, and develop strong friendship skills. 

Through engaging sessions, children will explore their emotions and social interactions in a safe, nurturing environment. They will participate in activities that inspire creativity and self-expression, while also learning practical strategies for social and emotional regulation. 

With a focus on creating a sense of belonging, the group helps participants feel supported as they navigate friendships and develop tools for positive self-esteem and self-awareness. 

2025: Term 2

Course: Jump Start for Senior School

Age: High School Students (Years 9-12) 

Dates: TBA

A group to support students and their parents in preparing for the critical transition to the senior school years. Our Jumpstart for Senior School Program is designed to build knowledge, skills, and confidence, ensuring students thrive during their final years of schooling. 

Course: Foodies

Age: Pre-schoolers (3 – 5 years old)

Dates: TBA

The Allay Occupational Therapy Foodies Program helps parents and children turn stressful mealtimes into enjoyable experiences. It offers play-based feeding therapy for pre-schoolers (3-5 years)  in Geelong. The program, based on the Sequential-Oral-Sensory (SOS) approach, addresses sensory, motor, oral, cognitive, medical, and nutritional factors contributing to feeding difficulties. If your child has limited food preferences, difficulty chewing or swallowing, prolonged meal times, or other related issues, this program can help foster positive eating habits and a healthy relationship with food.

 

Course: Handwriting Heroes

Age: Primary-schoolers (5 – 10 years old)

Dates: TBA

Handwriting Heroes offers targeted Occupational Therapy to improve handwriting through strengthening activities, fine motor exercises, and letter formation techniques. Children of any age are welcome and will build hand strength, coordination, and endurance to write confidently. With individualised support in a therapeutic setting, kids will develop the skills needed to enhance their relationship with handwriting, share their ideas in written form, and make lasting improvements in their fine motor skills.

 

Course: Strong Minds Homework Club

Age: Early High School (12 – 15 years old)

Dates: TBA

This group is designed for early high school students or those new to homework. It focuses on building executive functioning skills like planning, prioritising, time management, and problem-solving. In a supportive and therapeutic environment, students receive guidance to break tasks into manageable steps, stay on track, and practice strategies to complete their homework confidently. Occupational Therapists (OTs) provide tailored support to manage stress, dysregulation, or overwhelm, setting students up for long-term, independent success. Additionally, it’s a great opportunity for students to connect with peers facing similar challenges and share experiences.

 

2025: Term 2 Holidays

Course: Allay Adventurer’s Guild Dungeons & Dragons

Age: 8 – 16 year olds

The Allay Adventurer’s Guild offers 6 sessions, each 2.5 hours long, over the school holidays and is designed for young people aged 8-16 years old. It uses the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game to help young people build skills in collaborative and creative problem-solving within a peer team. The program focuses on enhancing confidence in turn-taking and communication skills, while also fostering resilience in a fun and safe environment.
