The Circle of Security – Parenting Program

by Nov 1, 2021

At times all parents feel lost or without a clue about what our child needs from us. When we are unsure about emotions or behaviours, where parenting can become hard and overwhelming. Despite wanting the best for our kids, we are unsure about what to do. Here’s the thing, imagine what it might feel like if you were able to make sense of what your child was really asking from you and what to do next. A map of sorts, guiding your parenting journey.

The Circle of Security Parenting™ program

The Circle of Security (COS) program offers you this map to understand what your children need from you emotionally at any given time and tools to meet that need. The program is based on decades of research about how secure parent-child relationships can be supported and strengthened and aims to help you:

  • Understand your child’s emotional world by learning to read emotional needs
  • Support your child’s ability to successfully manage emotions
  • Enhance the development of your child’s self esteem
  • Honour your innate wisdom and desire for your child to be secure

A Group With Other Parents

The COS program can be provided in a group, typically with 4-8 parents. The group facilitators provide information via videos, create discussion, allow for self-reflection, set goals and support a learning environment.

It is common for people to experience some initial anxiety over the prospect of participating in a group. The thing to remember is that everyone is there for similar reasons (parenting is hard!) and the group acts as a safe support system as you learn this new information.

The group is a confidential space to explore the normal challenges of parenting. We meet with families beforehand to ensure that everyone is there for the same reasons, to learn from the program and each other, support each and be real about the challenges of parenting.

A Program on Telehealth That Supports Parenting

Allay runs this group via teleheath from 7pm – 9pm. This unique way of running the program means that if you co-parent with anyone, they can sit down with you whenever and wherever possible (whilst settling the kids down).  We would highly encourage this, because a united approach is incredibly helpful and to be able to discuss the program and the challenges in implementing in your house with your closest ones.

A secure attachment between child and caregiver is critical to a child’s current and future well being. By building their empathy, self esteem, better relationships with parents and peers, and your child’s ability to successfully manage emotions, COS can be your guide to parenting. Allay can offer this program to you in a group setting, or individually, with rebates and funding schemes available for your unique circumstances.
